Icicle Disaster is a podcast for JRPG enthusiasts as well as an outlet for high quality games writing pertaining to the genre. Japanese role-playing games have a fascinating history of tradition as well as innovation, and Icicle Disaster seeks to study and play these works as they continue to make the journey across the Pacific. Although a fondness of JRPGs cannot be hidden at Icicle Disaster, its goal is to provide critical analysis of Japanese game design from any era. Join us as we revisit the past, play the present, and look to the future of JRPGs as they continue to capture the imagination of gamers around the world.

Zach is a graduate of Northern Illinois University where he studied Computer Science and Japanese language. He’s written for physical publications including his university newspaper, the Northern Star, as well as local Chicago magazine, The Printed Blog. His reviews and writings on game design have been featured on Playstation Universe, as well as Haywire Magazine where he worked as a columnist. Zach considers himself as a sort of gaming romantic, often falling victim to the melodramatic and earnest nature JRPGs so often provide. He can, however, become cynical and distrusting at the first hint of disagreement.
